Our School

 Thank you for your interest in the Barrington Music Academy!  BMA is a school of music dedicated to providing high quality music instruction and performance for flute, piano, violin, viola, and cello to students, regardless of age.
  
Our highly qualified and classically trained faculty are performing musicians. They have taught in Greater Barrington Area for 25 years. Barrington Music Academy offers music education to all students  ages 3 to adult; and flute as early as 5 years old.   We use both traditional and Suzuki methods of teaching and have initiated a comprehensive approach to teach music by combining private lessons with group classes in musicianship and theory. This well rounded approach develops musically sensitive and receptive individuals who are able to play with the eloquence that comes from understanding the structure and purpose of music.
 

The Barrington Music Academy nurtures the creativity and artistry of students and faculty, educates students to achieve excellence as performers, and enriches the education of all students through the study and practice of music. BMA fosters the highest standards of teaching and holds a fundamental commitment to the teaching of comprehensive musicianship into all aspects of the curriculum. The school provides opportunities to understand, participate in, and enjoy music.  It has a responsibility for fulfilling this mission, for the citizens of Greater Barrington area and the neighboring communities.

  • Prepare each student with a solid foundation in music theory.

  • Develops an informed and inquiring mind that enables each student to engage in the fundamental issues of his or her art. 

  • And, through its community and education programs,  offer performance opportunities for students of all ages.

Objectives

Barrington Music Academy’s  objectives are not only to teach music in a way that develops the innate musicality in each student, but also to inspire participation for lifetime. The school's comprehensive and coordinated approach to lifelong music education is based on the following principles:
 

  • The capacity for understanding and creating music is in everyone.

  • Music provides a lifelong source of enjoyment, self-expression and opportunity for growth.

  • Musical expression is achieved through phrasing and tone, to which end musical understanding and technique are essential.

  • The student is best served when teaching is responsive to the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development.

  • The teacher is critically important, and is most able to realize these principles when open to continued learning through ongoing professional development.
